📅 Last Updated: January 1, 2025 — This Disclaimer applies to all users of PDFLocker ("the Service") available at pdflocker.com. Please read it carefully.

1. General Disclaimer

The information and tools provided by PDFLocker on this website are provided "as is" for general informational and utility purposes only. PDFLocker makes no warranties, expressed or implied, regarding the fitness, accuracy, completeness, or reliability of the Service or any information contained herein.

By accessing and using PDFLocker, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by this Disclaimer. If you do not agree with any part of this Disclaimer, please do not use our Service.

2. No Guarantee of Security

While PDFLocker uses AES-256 encryption, one of the strongest commercially available encryption standards, we cannot provide an absolute guarantee that encrypted files will be impenetrable under all circumstances and for all time. The security of any encrypted file ultimately depends on:

PDFLocker strongly recommends using long, unique, randomly-generated passwords for highly sensitive documents. For documents requiring the highest level of security (government secrets, attorney-client privileged matter, etc.), please consult a professional information security practitioner and use dedicated enterprise security solutions.

3. Password Recovery Disclaimer

PDFLocker does not store, log, or retain any passwords you enter into the tool. This is by design to protect your privacy. As a consequence, it is technically impossible for PDFLocker to help you recover a forgotten PDF password. If you forget the password you set for an encrypted PDF, access to the contents of that file may be permanently lost. You are solely responsible for securely recording and retaining any passwords used to encrypt your documents.

We strongly recommend using a reputable password manager to store passwords for encrypted documents.

4. File Integrity and Compatibility

PDFLocker processes PDF files using the pdf-lib JavaScript library. While we strive for maximum compatibility, the following limitations apply:

PDFLocker is not responsible for any corruption, loss of data, formatting changes, or other alterations to your PDF files that may occur during the encryption process.

5. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, PDFLocker, its founders, employees, contributors, and affiliates shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages arising from:

This limitation of liability applies regardless of the form of action and whether it is based in contract, tort, negligence, strict liability, or any other legal or equitable theory.

6. User Responsibilities and Acceptable Use

By using PDFLocker, you agree that you are solely responsible for:

PDFLocker reserves the right to deny service or access to any individual or organization found to be using the Service in violation of these terms or applicable law.

7. Third-Party Libraries and Open Source

PDFLocker relies on third-party open-source libraries, including pdf-lib, for its core functionality. We are not the authors or maintainers of these libraries and cannot be held responsible for vulnerabilities, changes, or issues arising from them. We monitor these dependencies and update them as security patches are released, but we cannot guarantee that all vulnerabilities will be addressed immediately upon discovery.

Nothing on this website constitutes legal advice, compliance advice, or professional information security consulting.
